The Black Eyed Peas show at Nassau Coliseum was, as expected, a big, flashy extravaganza built around their massive hits.
There were a few glitches, though:
– “Today, I woke up with no voice,” Fergie explained, adding that she had been bed-ridden and needed to get a shot from her doctor in order to be able to perform. Though she sounded fine for much of the night, she did struggle a bit with the high notes on “Missing You.”’s DJ set not only went on too long as he tried to fit together everything from Estelle’s “American Boy” to House of Pain’s “Jump Around” to Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” but he also sang over the songs he apparently loved and screamed "Ho!" over them.
– Someone needs to explain New York geography to the Peas. They gave Long Island plenty of shout-outs, which was good, but they hyped New Jersey so often, people started to boo. This seemed to confuse them a bit, even prompting Fergie to try to sort it out later, asking how many people were from Uniondale. When she didn’t get a big response, she said, “OK, not so much.”
