The Narrative went all out for its CMJ showcase at Sullivan Hall last night.

The Bellmore-based duo of Jesse Gabriel and Suzie Zeldin were backed by Nghbrs' rhythm section, along with an upright bass player and an additional keyboard player, giving the pretty pop melodies from their eponymous debut a new, lush feel.

Though the new direction gave the band's sound, which could easily give She and Him a run for their money, some additional layers, The Narrative still centers around the gorgeous voices of Gabriel and Zeldin, as well as their adorable personalities.

“You're experiencing a magical moment,” Zeldin told the audience, after the expanded band played a couple of songs.

“Don't cry,” deadpanned Gabriel, “even though it's beautiful.”

SETLIST: Turncoat / You Will Be Mine / Silence & Sirens / Eyes Closed / Hallelujah / Winter's Coming / Trains / Fade
