David Bowie apparently likes giving other people presents on his birthday.

Bowie's new album, "Blackstar," his 25th studio album, will be released on Jan. 8. when the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer turns 69, according to an announcement on his website Sunday night.

The title track, which also serves as the theme for the new British series "The Last Panthers," will be released as a single on Nov. 20.

Though Bowie took 10 years between the release of "Reality" and the surprise release of "The Next Day" on his birthday in 2013, the "Heroes" singer is moving at a faster clip for its follow-up.

Bowie offered no other information about the album in the release, calling published reports about the album's sound and content "inaccurate reporting." He also clarified that the "Blackstar" single is not connected to his upcoming off-Broadway musical, "Lazarus," which stars Michael C. Hall and starts previews on Nov. 18 at New York Theatre Workshop.
