It's always great to see one of the original members of The Smiths and bassist Andy Rourke did not disappoint with his DJ set at the Escape to New York Festival yesterday. On the other hand, Rourke may have been a bit disappointed in the sparse turnout for his set, which landed at the same time as the great bubble-gun tour and a main stage set from Au Revoir Simone. Nevertheless, he and his friends made the most of it, as he spun hits mostly drawn from the '80s and '90s, including a remake of a Smiths' classic and De La Soul's "3 Is a Magic Number" for Strong Island.
Here's his DJ set: Roy Ayers – “We Live in Brooklyn, Baby” / Rolling Stones - “Monkey Man” / Primal Scream - “Some Velvet Morning” / The Clash - “Rock the Casbah” / Stereo MC's - “Connected” / Kool & The Gang - “Jungle Boogie” / New Order - “Fine Time” / Mark Ronson feat. Daniel Merriweather - “Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before” / Fun Lovin' Criminals - “Scooby Snacks” / Echo & The Bunnymen - “Lips Like Sugar” / David Bowie - “Sound and Vision” / CSS - “Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above” / De La Soul - “3 Is a Magic Number” / Gorillaz - “Dare” / Blondie vs. The Doors - “Rapture Riders” / Deee-Lite - “Groove Is in the Heart”
