Happy birthday, Lucinda Williams!
But you're supposed to get presents, not hand them out. Yes, I was one of the lucky ones to land an advance copy of Lu's upcoming album “Blessed” (Lost Highway), which hits stores on March 1, and it's a pretty amazing gift.
It's not as rocking as the magnificent “Little Honey” album from 2008, but it's packed with gorgeous additions to her already impressive catalog. The title track is another meditation on life and American culture, while “Seeing Black” rocks out with a hot guitar solo from Elvis Costello.
Hopefully, Lu is celebrating somewhere warm today, because she's heading out on the road starting Feb. 18 in Iowa City, Iowa, stopping at Webster Hall on March 11 and 12.
In the meantime, here's a “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road” classic to honor her being around.
