Jay-Z should headline next Super Bowl halftime

The orchestra-meets-metal remix of Jay-Z’s “Run This Town” that kicked off Super Bowl XLIV last night gave the No. 1 hit an interesting twist. Hopefully, it also planted the seed of an idea that Hova and the Roc Nation crew should do next year’s halftime show.
Sure, ever since the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction Super Bowl producers have been super-conservative about their Halftime Show picks. But after this year’s choice of The Who, who did a good, though unsurprising, job of rocking out, the Boomer British bands of the ‘60s may officially be tapped out. As the Twitterverse snarkily pointed out, will next year’s Halftimers be Herman’s Hermits or The Monkees?
Actually, it should be Jay. “Run This Town” and the other dramatic anthems of “Blueprint 3" lend themselves to sports montages and, in turn, sports fans. He can bring additional star power – Beyonce (a.k.a. Mrs. J), Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Coldplay aren’t just pals, but recent collaborators – and a much-needed element of surprise to the show. Shouldn’t the New Orleans Saints victory through gutsy play-calling rub off on the NFL as a whole?
