After a 2018 full of firsts, Madison Beer is showing no signs of slowing down.

So far this year, the Jericho native made her late-night talk show debut on “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” played Lollapalooza as well as her first Long Island show at The Paramount in Huntington, and became the first female solo artist on an independent label to score a Top 20 pop hit, thanks to her recent “Home With You” single. And now she has released her follow-up, the catchy breakup song “Hurts Like Hell” (Access), which she co-wrote with Charli XCX and features Migos rapper Offset.

“The song’s production feels really new to me — it’s got a vibe in the beat like I haven’t heard before,” Beer says in a statement. “I love Charli XCX, so getting to work with her was really inspiring. Offset felt like the perfect fit for the track. He’s one of the most talented, professional, down to earth artists I’ve ever worked with, and his verse absolutely kills it.”

It’s the first single from Beer’s debut album set to be released next year and she even co-wrote and executive produced the video, where she uses mystical powers to get justice for wronged women.

“Hurts Like Hell” isn’t the only Beer-related track getting attention. She is part of the virtual supergroup K/DA, an extension of the “League of Legends” video game, whose first single, “POP/STARS” (Riot Games), has become a global hit, already hitting No. 1 on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart and debuting at No. 10 on the American Pop Digital Song Sales chart. The accompanying video made YouTube’s Trending chart and racked up 60 million videos in a couple of weeks.

K/DA features Beer and fellow American singer Jaira Burns teamed with K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE and features lyrics in both English and Korean. Beer and the rest of K/DA debuted the song, alongside their virtual versions, at the opening ceremony of the 2018 League of Legends World Championship in Incheon, South Korea, earlier this month.

Joan Jett’s ‘Fresh Start’

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts turned their new single “Fresh Start” (Blackheart), from the soundtrack to the “Bad Reputation” documentary, into a rallying cry for women to get involved in politics. The video for the roaring rocker, released on Election Day, features footage of plenty of female politicians spliced with statements such as “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made.”
