The Ronkonkoma-based quartet Amboy beat out 54 competitors to win Newsday’s second Battle of the Bands competition.

“We never expected to win,” said Chris Moraitis, 20, one of Amboy’s musicians along with Michael Milillo, 19, Mike White, 21, and Mike Brasile, 21.

Their prizes include a profile written by Newsday music writer Glenn Gamboa and an opening act slot at The Paramount in Huntington.

“Opening for Bayside would be awesome,” said Milillo.

Amboy has also been in the studio working on an album, which should help them attain the real prize: “We want to reach out to people and have more of them hear us,” said Moraitis. “That’s the dream.”
