Solomon Burke -- known as the King of Rock and Soul or King Solomon, for short -- died yesterday morning of natural causes as his plane landed in Amsterdam, his family said in a statement. He was 70.
Best known for his songs "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" and "Cry to Me," which gained a new following in the movie "Dirty Dancing," the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was one of soul's greatest vocalists. Burke was also an incredible performer, even in recent years, when he spent most of the show seated on stage on his throne. He will be missed.
