Ryan Star isn't worried about his late-night TV debut Tuesday night on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

After all, the Dix Hills native has done plenty of network TV in the past and he and his band have been playing his new single “Stay Awhile” in their set for months. “Stay Awhile,” which has already been on Billboard's adult top 40 charts, will be released on iTunes Tuesday to coincide with his “Leno” appearance.

“In the past year, we've played almost 300 shows,” Star said. “We're good to go. We're going to have that tour mentality, that swagger, like Phelps before a swim. We'll just get out there and play our hearts out like it's 'The Tonight Show.'”

Star's recent move from Atlantic Records to Island Records, as well as his new label's support for “Stay Awhile,” has clearly energized him, as he gets ready to work on his new album as well as promote the new single.

“You see those bands who try to be cool and just look at their shoes – the shoegazers – I couldn't do that even if I tried right now,” he said. “I'm going to be like, 'I'm on 'Leno'! Let's go!'”
