Two down ... eight remain. Last night on “The Voice” live results show, Bryan Keith and Sylvia Yacoub were sent packing. Poor Sylvia, who did a very shaky version of Alicia Key’s “Girl on Fire,” even suffered one last indignity near the end when they were down to the final three performers with only one save left. When host Carson Daly called her name to ask one of his boneheaded questions, Sylvia briefly thought he was announcing that she was saved. Awkward.
In any case, that means Queens’ Trevin Hunte and Baldwin’s Melanie Martinez are in the elite eight. Fans loved her unique cover of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” so much that it landed at No. 8 on the iTunes singles chart, the second highest of all the performers. Cassadee Pope’s emotional take of Miranda Lambert’s “Over You” — co-written by Pope’s coach and Lambert’s husband, Blake Shelton — was No. 1, knocking “Gangnam Style” from the top spot, giving us another reason to love “The Voice.” Pope and Martinez had their iTunes votes multiplied by 10, which surely was a big reason why they made it to next week.
Here’s the elite eight:
Team Ceelo: Trevin Hunte, Nicholas David, Cody Below.
Team Adam: Amanda Brown, Melanie Martinez
Team Blake: Terry McDermott, Cassadee Pope
Team Christina: Dez Duron
Next week isn’t only going to be tough for the artists. The judges will also feel the pressure since there are no guarantees they’ll have an artist in the final. That means Adam, Blake or Christina could see their team eliminated in one night.
