On Sept. 7, 1996, rapper Tupac Shakur was shot and later died due to injuries sustained in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas following a Mike Tyson boxing match. The mystery behind who actually shot the rapper remains unsolved. It has been speculated that Shakur is still alive, living in Cuba where his step-aunt, Assata Shakur, received political asylum after escaping a U.S. prison years earlier.
Tupac Shakur died six days after being wounded in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. He was 25. Though no arrests have been made in the years since his death, it is thought to have been linked to an East Coast-West Coast beef between himself and rival rapper Notorious B.I.G., who was also killed in a shooting six months later.
