V Factory isn't your typical boy band.
New York native Asher Book will star as Marco in this fall's remake of the movie "Fame." ("I grew up going to the Performing Arts School," he says. "How ironic is that?") Jared Murillo has already made a name for himself in the "High School Musical" movies. Nick Teti was in a group that won "America's Best Dance Crew," while the others - Nathaniel Flatt and Wesley Quinn - also are trained dancers, all selected by singer-turned-music exec Tommy Page, who knows a thing or two about being a teen idol.
So what are they doing together? Well, one listen to their dance-pop hit "Love Struck" quickly shows how the group, which is wrapping up work on its debut for a big fall release, is even bigger than the sum of its parts.
Is it OK to call you a boy band?
Teti: I don't think that's a bad thing. We are five guys who sing and dance. . . . But when you hear the music, we don't sound like a typical boy band. The music is a lot different, and our personalities are a lot edgier.
Will that be reflected on the album?

Flatt: Yeah, we've been working on it for a year and a half, looking for something like "Love Struck" that would be something that represents us as artists. We think we've got that. We can't wait to show it off to the country. We're proud of it.
You're playing Beatstock here. Do you get competitive with the other acts on these radio shows?
Flatt:You never know who's watching, so we've never once slacked. We're still in the building stages, so it's always a learning experience.
Book :We all very much like to go gung-ho with all we do and turn it on. We definitely go all out.
FEEL THE LOVE. Just like on KTU, Melville native Kim Sozzi will be a standout at Beatstock '09 as one of the headliners, alongside the Backstreet Boys, Pitbull, Kelly Rowland and Cascada. Sozzi's hit "Feel Your Love" is currently No. 2 on the KTU charts, ahead of dance music stars with bigger names and major-label backing. The song has already hit No. 1 on the dance charts and helped the release of her album "Just One Day" (Ultra) last month.
