This year's NINJA 2009 Tour brings Nine Inch Nails and the reunited Jane's Addiction back together for their first trek since the inaugural Lollapalooza in 1991. Of course, a lot has changed since then. Here's a handy guide:
NINE INCH NAILS
KEY HITS The albums "The Fragile" and "With Teeth" hit No. 1; "Wish" and "Happiness in Slavery" won Grammys; "Only" and "Every Day Is Exactly the Same" topped the modern rock charts; "The Hand That Feeds" topped the dance charts; "Closer" is a signature songs, as is "Hurt," which also became a hit for Johnny Cash.
NEW JOB Reznor is a record company exec, guiding careers of Marilyn Manson and Saul Williams, as well as helping build a new tiered-package business model that starts with offering versions of albums for free. (Reznor has been talking about this tour as the final NIN tour for the foreseeable future.)
SIDE PROJECTS Well, he basically is Nine Inch Nails, so no.
KEY HITS Post-Lollapalooza Jane's released only "Strays," which yielded the No. 1 modern rock hit "Just Because." "Superhero" may be more recognizable, though, as the theme for "Entourage."
NEW JOBS Farrell became a concert promoter with Lollapalooza and a noted DJ; Navarro became a reality star with then-wife Carmen Electra on MTV's "Carmen and Dave: A Love Story" and alone on CBS' "Rock Star."
SIDE PROJECTS After the first breakup, Farrell and Perkins formed Porno for Pyros, while Navarro and Avery formed Deconstruction. Then, Navarro joined Red Hot Chili Peppers and Avery formed Polar Bear. After a second Jane's breakup, Farrell and Navarro released solo albums. Then, Navarro and Perkins formed The Panic Channel with Steve Isaacs in 2006, while Farrell and Nuno Bettencourt formed The Satellite Party.
