Though nowhere near as wild as last week's episode, Sunday's "Princesses: Long Island" was not without drama. The tension between Ashlee White and Joey Lauren is reaching a fever pitch, culminating in a one-on-one at the end of the episode that only makes matters worse.
My biggest question is (I've asked it before and I'll ask it again), why does Ashlee have such a problem with Joey? We've seen animosity building on Ashlee's part since the Hamptons, but what Joey brushed off as minor, Ashlee has increasingly used as reason to repeatedly call her former friend a "bad person." Did I miss something here?
But that's not the only question I have for these "Princesses" after watching episode 7. Here are four more happenings that left me saying, "Wait, what?"
Why is Erica house-hunting with Rob? For a woman who seems very unsure about where her relationship is headed, not to mention someone who admits her significant other makes her feel "stifled," Erica Gimbel apparently is jumping into their future with both feet -- or is she? After they look at a stunning $1.75 million home for sale on the North Shore, Erica seems more uncertain than ever about moving in with Rob, and asks him once they're in the car if he's ready for this, if they'e jumping the gun, and how he knows it's the right thing -- all questions she should be asking herself. And here's where I give some unsolicited advice: Erica, I know you're pushing 30, but what is the rush? If you're not 100 percent sure you want this (yet), why not try renting an apartment with Rob first? It's unclear whether they were planning to sign a mortgage together, but if so, neither one should have any doubts when signing on a house that big.
Who does Chanel's date, Nati, think he is? Oy vey. Nati, the best man in Chanel Omari's sister's upcoming wedding, seems very sweet (or maybe just eager to get on reality TV?) when he drives all the way from Brooklyn to Great Neck to bring Chanel, the maid of honor, a selection of bridesmaids dresses to try on. After he charms her family, she agrees to go on a date with him, and a few days later they proceed to a cute Jewish restaurant in his very-Jewish Brooklyn neighborhood. But that's where the charm ends. Nati makes some kind of comment about Chanel cooking or cleaning for him in the future, which she sees as a red flag (smart girl!) and follows up on. Nati rationalizes that cooking and cleaning is a woman's job and that, "When I come home after a long day of work I don't want to have to clean my own house." What century is he living in?! Next.
Will Amanda and Jeff get engaged before the season is over? Many hints were dropped during this episode, the least obvious of which was Amanda Bertoncini telling her mom, Barbara, she "really really really wants to get married with Jeff." Babs is none too keen on the idea, and who can blame her, considering Amanda has only known Jeff six months? Understandably, Jeff's parents are more encouraging (after all, he IS 11 years older than Amanda and from what we know, has never been married), and feel Amanda out by showing off Jeff's mom's HUGE new diamond sparkler. "Hand it over," Amanda jokes.
What is REALLY at the heart of Ashlee's beef with Joey? I'm starting to think Ashlee just has too much time on her hands, and sits around thinking about how ticked she still is that Joey called her out in the Hamptons weeks earlier for being really awkward toward a guy. But even by Ashlee's standards, that seems a bit unreasonable. Joey plans a sit down for the two of them, but things almost immediately turn sour when Ashlee arrives at City Cellar Wine Bar & Grill in Westbury. Still hurt by the "bad person" accusations, Joey straight-up asks Ashlee why she thinks that, and Ashlee really doesn't have concrete examples. The confrontation veers farther and farther away from the heart of the issue, until Ashlee finally walks out after Joey sarcastically calls her "funny looking." (Honestly, it sounds worse than it is -- watch the scene and you'll see what I mean.)
Ugh. Too many questions. But the most nagging of all is: Are you Team Joey or Team Ashlee? Tell us in the poll below.
