'Apprentice' featuring unemployed in works
First there was "The Apprentice," then Martha Stewart's "Apprentice," then "Celebrity Apprentice." Next up - "The Apprentice: The Unemployment Edition." That's not the name but it is the idea - a new edition of "The Apprentice" for a grim, new time, Newsday's Verne Gay reports. NBC, Donald Trump and producer Mark Burnett said yesterday the "refreshed" new edition - airdate to be determined - will star people who have been "hard hit by the economic downturn," while contestants will be "talented and bright prospects who have lost their jobs with no hope in sight, people who are currently holding down jobs they don't like just to make ends meet and recent college graduates who currently have few if any prospects." Trump said in a statement, "We've got to do something about the economy and this is a terrific way to provide jobs as well as business lessons along the way."
