AMC’s zombie drama, “The Walking Dead,” slashed cable TV records with a reported 7.3 million viewers on Sunday for its season two premiere.
According to the network, the episode earned 11 million viewers for the three times it aired on Sunday.
“‘The Walking Dead’ is one of those rare television programs that reaches both a core genre fan as well as broad audiences simply looking for a great, character-based story,” Charlie Collier, AMC’s president, said in a news release. “That ‘The Walking Dead’ is now the most watched drama in the history of basic cable against key demos is staggering, just like our zombies.”
Based on a comic book with the same name, "The Walking Dead" features a group of people who have become zombies and are hunting for humans to eat. The show stars Andrew Lincoln and Sarah Wayne Callies.
For those curious about the show, the debut episode is posted on AMC’s website.
