Broadway’s “Cats,” the revival of the 1983 Tony Award-winning Best Musical, is closing this December.
The Shubert Organization and The Nederlander Organization announced Wednesday that the show will play its final performance on Dec. 30 at the Neil Simon Theatre after 16 previews and 593 regular performances. Previews began July 14, 2016, with opening night on July 31, 2016.
The production’s national tour will debut at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, Rhode Island, in January 2019, the producers said. Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber’s original “Cats” production won seven Tonys, including for Book, Original Score, Featured Actress Betty Buckley and director Trevor Nunn.
