THE DEAL With all the box office success of Disney’s live-action remake of “Beauty and the Beast,” producers are looking to develop more family-friendly film musicals. Variety reports that Elton John will work with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice on an animated musical version of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” which Lloyd Webber and Rice originally wrote for a school choir.

THE SHOW “Marvin’s Room”

THE DEAL Actress-comedian Janeane Garofalo will make her Broadway debut in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of Scott McPherson’s dark family comedy “Marvin’s Room,” which is best known for its film version with Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton. McPherson was a Chicago-based actor and playwright who died of AIDS shortly after the play premiered.

THE SHOW “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”

THE DEAL Dylan Lauren (of Dylan’s Candy Bar) will serve as “the official curator of all promotional things digestible, edible and wonderfully tasty” for the Broadway musical “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” which began previews last week. The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre has installed a Chocolate Bar, Candy Bar and Wonka Empori-Yum to sell the treats.

THE SHOW “Once on This Island”

THE DEAL The search is on for a young actress to play the dreamy-eyed Ti Moune in next season’s Broadway revival of the Caribbean fairy tale musical “Once on This Island,” which will be directed by Michael Arden (“Spring Awakening”). Auditions start this month in Haiti, Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Atlanta and New York. For more info, visit
