There's going to be a new kid on the block known as Broadway.
Joey McIntyre, who rocked some hit tunes and bad hair in the '90s boy band New Kids on the Block, will join the cast of the Broadway smash "Waitress" as Dr. Pomatter, the romantic interest of the title character, from Feb. 5 through April 7. The pop star turned actor takes over for Gavin Creel, who leaves the show on Feb. 3.
The last time McIntyre appeared on Broadway was when he played Fiyero, the love of Elphaba's life, in "Wicked" from July 2004 through January 2005. McIntyre's other acting credits include series regular roles on the Fox high school drama "Boston Public" in 2003 and the short-lived CBS sitcom "The McCarthys" in 2015.
"Waitress," which opened in April 2016, is based on Adrienne Shelly's 2007 drama about a waitress/pie maker trapped in a loveless marriage. The show, which was nominated for three Tony Awards, features music by Sara Bareilles, who stars in the show through Feb. 3.
