Apparently it was leather weather for some of the girls on "American Idol" on Wednesday night and they looked swell. Stunning and strutting it best was the gorgeous Amber Holcomb who was having a fashion “Moment like This,” in a cool, black leather moto vest over a billowing animal print maxi dress, belted and worn with graphic cylindrical earrings. Angie Miller rocked a short, form-fitting black leather frock encased by chains and worn with high black booties. Nicki Minaj said, “You really, really look like a billion dollars today.” She did.
Candice Glover dressed perfectly for her curvy frame in a cold shoulder top embellished with a little sparkle and slim leather pants.
Country girl Janelle Arthur looked her best yet, (though she didn’t wear leather), in a blue jean vest topping a beaded miniskirt and short cowboy boots. Minaj didn’t like her song but said she was, “electric and beautiful and exciting.” And Kree Harrison has a great voice, but she’s going to have to ratchet up the fashion factor to stay in the game. Her all black ensemble topped by a black and white patterned boxy silk jacket was barely so-so.
Some of the fellas flashed a little color – did Curtis Finch Jr. go too far in his bright red paisley printed blazer over a white shirt and black pants? We thought it was kind of fun, though his rendition of “I Believe,” fell flat. And Lazaro Arbos eschewed his favorite shade of pink in lieu of bright blue – an Elvis get-up including a skinny black tie. Burnell Taylor went a little wild with a cheetah print shirt topped by a leather jacket – kind of cute – while Paul Jolley looked long and lean in a blazer with leather sleeves, gray V-neck tee and skinny jeans. We weren’t crazy about Devin Velez’ mottled jacket worn with a corsage pin that featured silvery stems though the fit was perfection.
As for judges Mariah Carey and Minaj, wow, they were a study in opposites. Minaj, who arrived late for the show reportedly because she was stuck in traffic, could have entered a boxing ring in her hooded black, sweatshirt-like ensemble. Carey was a perfect lady, donning a creamy Tom Ford number – glittery on the top, silky on the bottom – and Wilfredo Rosado jewelry. She looked dreamy and angelic.
