'American Idol' starts with a great group and a horrific one

"American Idol" Hollywood group day starts off with 185 contestants divided up 42 ways; first up is "The Betties," doing Blu Cantrell's "Hit 'em Up Style (Oops!)."

In Randy Jackson's words, "that was pretty weak" -- totally uneven, makes me cringe they're so unrehearsed and uneven. Two make it through, Jennifer Maisch and Cari Quoyeser; rest are cut.

Next up a drama-free group -- Reed Grimm, Nick Boddington, Jen Hirsh, Queens' Creighton Fraker and Aaron Marcellus, singing Sam Cook's "Hold On I'm Coming." They're together, well-choreographed and obviously well-rehearsed, and get a standing ovation from the judges and the audience at the end.

"Now that's how you do it; amazing!" yells Jackson, as the judges gush over how even the background vocals were great; and they all advance.
