TPTB (the powers that be) at “American Idol” reinvented their rule book last night when it was announced that no one was being eliminated and that this week's votes will be combined with next week's to decide who will be leaving the show.

So, the final four contestants – Amber Holcomb, Angie Miller, Kree Harrison and Candice Glover – will all get another shot at performing for America's votes next Wednesday.

Since the judges did not use their contestant “save” for the first time since it became available in 2008, “Idol” had an extra week built into its schedule.

Ryan Seacrest announced last night that the theme for next week is “Now and Then” – current songs vs. standards.

"American Idol" season 7 winner David Cook will perform his new single “Laying Me Low” on the results show Thursday, May 2.
