Babylon native named to top job at ABC News

Local promotion alert! Rick Klein, an ABC News veteran, has just been named political director there. Klein grew up in Babylon, and graduated Babylon High in '94. (Per ABC, he lives on Capitol Hill now with wife Laine and sons Jack and Max.) This is a significant job at ABC News - any of the networks of course - and in the wake of losing Jake Tapper to CNN,.ABC has bolstered its bureau there, just this week hiring two senior New York Times reporter. Hal Bruno, who died in 2011, held this job, by the way. A couple of graphs from ABC News prez Ben Sherwood's  memo announcing Klein...

In a job created by the legendary Hal Bruno, Rick will oversee the political unit and lead our digital efforts around politics while helping to steer the network's coverage of major news events on all platforms. Rick's sharp instincts and penetrating insights played a critical role throughout the 2012 election cycle, helping guide World News reporting on campaigns and political battles in Washington. Rick was a key member of the editorial team that produced two of the most-watched debates of the Republican primaries. And when Martha Raddatz was picked to moderate the Vice Presidential debate, Rick enthusiastically took on a leading part in debateprep as a very convincing Paul Ryan. In fact, in the mock debates, hecaptured virtually every rhetorical point and personal mannerism -- except for gulping water.
