Stars including Beyoncé, George Clooney, Barbra Streisand and Oprah Winfrey are among those taking part in the telethon “Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief.”
Talent manager Scooter Braun’s company, SB Projects, and ABC announced Tuesday that ABC, CBS, CMT, Fox and NBC would air the live, one-hour special on Sept. 12 at 8 p.m., with additional livestreaming on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
The telethon, to support relief efforts in the Texas and Louisiana areas struck by the Category 4 hurricane, also will feature appearances, performances and taped tributes by Jamie Foxx, model Karlie Kloss, Matt Lauer, Rob Lowe, Matthew McConaughey, “CBS This Morning” co-anchor Norah O’Donnell, Dennis Quaid, Julia Roberts, Kelly Rowland, Adam Sandler, Ryan Seacrest, Blake Shelton, Michael Strahan, Reese Witherspoon and others to be announced. Texas native and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee George Strait will perform live from his benefit concert at San Antonio’s Majestic Theatre.
Based in Los Angeles at Universal Studios, the telethon also will include performances from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and from a stage at Times Square.
Proceeds are earmarked to benefit the relief efforts of United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Save the Children, Feeding Texas, Direct Relief, and Houston’s Mayor’s Fund for Hurricane Harvey Relief (administered by the Greater Houston Community Fund), through the Hand in Hand Hurricane Relief Fund managed by Comic Relief Inc. Phone lines, text messaging and digital donations will open at the start of the special and conclude one hour after it ends.
Grammy-nominated rapper Bun B, a Houston native, is spearheading the effort along with Braun.
