'IDOL' AUDITIONS "American Idol" wannabes can start singing next weekend, when auditions kick off July 17 in Nashville. The closest the Fox show comes to Long Island this year is an Aug. 3 stop at the Meadowlands' Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J. Full rundown at americanidol.com/auditions.

'BIGGEST LOSER' SEARCH NBC's weight-loss competition isn't touching down on LI this time, either. Applications start July 17 in Denver and Portland, with East Coast stops in Boston July 24 and Pittsburgh Aug. 7. But people with more than 100 pounds to lose can also audition via videotape.
