Billy Bush’s future with “Today” came into question on Tuesday as several news outlets reported that he could be fired by NBC within days.

CNN’s Brian Stelter reported that a source informed him that Bush’s departure will occur “in the coming days.” NPR’s David Folkenflik similarly reported that a source told him Bush’s dismissal is “a matter of days” away.

Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday confirmed an impending announcement regarding Bush and his position at the network after several outlets reported that he was in the midst of negotiating his exit from “Today.” Bush, who turns 45 on Thursday, began hosting the third hour of the morning news show in August.

Bush, a former “Access Hollywood” host, has been enmeshed in controversy and his career put in jeopardy after audio footage from 2005 surfaced Friday of him and current Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump making lewd comments about TV personality Nancy O’Dell and actress Arianne Zucker aboard an “Access” bus.

Hours after The Washington Post released the tape, Bush offered an apology. He was put on indefinite suspension by NBC on Sunday.
