Billy Joel finally has that date with “Kevin Can Wait” — he’ll appear on Monday’s episode (WCBS/2 at 8 p.m.), “Kevin’s Bringing Supper Back.”
The through line is as follows: “Kevin’s resolve to spend more quality time with his family is put to the ultimate test when his buddies surprise him with concert tickets to his favorite musician, fellow Long Islander Billy Joel.”
Almost even before launch, Joel was expected to make a cameo on Kevin James’ new Long-Island-based-and-produced sitcom for CBS.
Joel recently told Newsday’s Glenn Gamboa that he would “definitely” appear on the show this season — “I don’t know where, I don’t know when” — and when told that James had reportedly “begged” him to do the show, Joel replied, “But he doesn’t have to beg me. He’s a good guy. We’ll definitely do something for him.”
On a recent edition of Harry Connick Jr.’s new daytime show, James told the host “I grew up with him, man, I grew up loving him, and then I went, about seven years ago or something, I saw him in a concert in Florida and I . . . asked if I could go backstage and just say hello. And I went back and I met him and . . . we just talked Long Island right away and just hit it off immediately and we’ve been friends ever since.”
Joel — this will not shock you — rarely goes on any prime-time scripted series, the last instance believed to be in 1999, when he had a cameo on “Mad About You.”
