Heckuva good start for heckuva-not-good new series "Body of Proof:" 14 million viewers, which is remarkable considering that a.) ABC has aired better shows this season that didn't get a fraction of that number and b.) "BOP" didn't get all that much promotion. Oh sure, it got a lot the last few days, but this was supposed to launch last fall when ABC decided to shelve it for reasons not entirely clear (I think the new prez of ABC, Paul Lee, wanted to get it out of the crossfire of fall launches. Smart move.)
"BOF" represents -- if it holds that "DWTS"-fueled number -- the triumph of formula. Viewers seem to want the familiar, the comfortable, the obvious. Plus, there's a good cast -- Dana Delany, Jeri Ryan, John Carroll Lynch. Maybe they want that, too.
