Boomer TV: 'Columbo' debuts (1971)

Today, we'll mark the 40th anniversary of the start of the 1971-72 television season.

Here's the opening from "Columbo," which debuted on Sept. 15 and, of course, made Peter Falk into a superstar. The slovenly, mumbly Lt. Columbo wasn't the only odd gumshoe premiering that fall -- we also saw William Conrad as the portly, balding, middle-aged "Cannon" and James Franciscus as the blind "Longstreet" (not to mention Raymond Burr's character in a wheelchair "Ironside," which had been on for several seasons already.)

Just curious: who was your favorite '70s TV cop?
