"American Idol" is about to name its two finalists, suddenly. Ha, Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery and Haley Reinhart and everyone else get faked out. We have to wait until after the break.
Scotty is in the finals, first. Then, his fellow Southerner, Lauren makes the finals, too. Haley is just standing there looking a bit shocked.
Well, this season that started off with so much promise has ended with two of the less-interesting contestants in the finals. Pia Toscano, gone. Jacob Lusk, gone. James Durbin, gone. And now Haley Reinhart, gone.
Haley's singing us out with a fantastic "Bennie and the Jets."
I guess the voters don't value creativity or taking risks as much as they value someone who looks and talks like them, and sings the country music they like.
Oh, well. Everyone's got the right to vote for what moves them. I just wish the judges had done less happy talk and more actual judging.
Both Scotty and Lauren have good voices. But they both have gotten away with doing pretty much the same thing since day one. No growth or pushing there.
As for the battle of the Southerners, I think Scotty will win pretty easily. He's never been in the bottom two this year and his fan base is voting for him, not his singing.
