Casey James singing "Mrs. Robinson" on "American Idol." Jamie Foxx tells him to seduce him, "act like I'm a woman."
Foxx really is a great mentor. He knows exactly what each contestant needs and how to shake them up. Gives him an "artist" shirt.
But seriously, Casey's playing the ukulele?! It's almost like a parody, up there in his permed hair, being all sensitive and deliberate, hunched over his little instrument. I don't know . . . I think it's horrible. The original song is driving, compelling, this is limp. It does get better toward the end, but overall I really disliked it.
Randy just asks, "Dude, why did you choose that song?!" Randy makes fun of him for appealing to his cougar fan base, calls it "cool and laid-back," but nothing special. Ellen gets off the zinger of the night, "I wish they'd have given you a big-boy guitar."
Kara liked him being vulnerable and sensitive as Randy and Simon are just razzing her. Simon says he "didn't think the song or the performance had the substance required on this important night, it was a little bit lazy, and you could've made a bigger impact."
That's exactly it -- Casey came up small in every way tonight.
