'Deadliest Catch's' Phil Harris dies

My Captain does not answer, his lips are

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still; My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will; The ship is anchored safe and sound, its voyage closed and done; From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won; Exult O shores, and ring O bells! But I, with mournful tread, Walk the deck my Captain lies, Fallen cold and dead. Photo Credit: discovery

This big news broke last night and sorry for getting it to you now, but Phil Harris - the doughty captain of 'Deadliest Catch' has died of complications from a stroke suffered late January. He was 53.

Harris? He's one of the big stars on reality TV, and if you've never seen "Deadliest Catch" then you have missed - seriously - one of the most amazing shows on TV. (Check out the first clip...)

Here's the statement from sons Jake and Josh...

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad -
Captain Phil Harris.  Dad has always been a fighter and
continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he
was someone who never backed down.  We will remember and
celebrate that strength.  Thanks to everyone for their
thoughts and prayers.

  And from Discovery:

Discovery mourns the loss of dear friend and colleague
Captain Phil Harris.  He was more than someone on our
television screen.  Phil was a devoted father and loyal
friend to all who knew him.

We will miss his straightforward honesty,
wicked sense of humor and enormous heart.  We share our
tremendous sadness over this loss with the millions of
viewers who followed Phil's every move.  We send our
thoughts and prayers to Phil's sons Josh and Jake and
the Cornelia Marie crew.
