‘Empire’ finale to be followed by ‘Star’ series premiere

“Star,” a new drama from “Empire” co-creator Lee Daniels and “The Mentalist” co-executive producer Tom Donaghy, will debut immediately following the season three fall finale of “Empire” on Dec. 14.

Fox said Wednesday that “Empire” would air an hour early, at 8 p.m., with “Star” at 9. The series follows three talented young singers as they attempt to navigate the music business. The series stars Academy Award-nominee Queen Latifah (“Chicago”), Emmy Award-nominee Benjamin Bratt (“Law & Order”) and newcomers Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny, Brittany O’Grady and Amiyah Scott. The series will feature guest stars Lenny Kravitz, Naomi Campbell and Tyrese Gibson, Fox added. “Star” begins its regular run on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
