Roger Ailes has re-upped as chairman of Fox News, News Corp. just announced, saying he'll continue to serve as chairman and chief executive of the network as well as chief executive of Fox Television Stations (FTS), Fox Business Network (FBN), Twentieth Television and MyNetwork TV through 2016. For FNC, this comes under the heading of “very good news.” Ailes isn't merely the personification of the nation's most-watched news network but the personification of a brand of conservatism in the media that hadn't even existed (except in radio) before he re-branded the struggling network beginning back in 1996. Simply put, Ailes made Fox News and there is no one -- anywhere on the U.S. media landscape -- more closely allied with a major media brand. Moreover, he re-signs just as CNN continues a search for a new chief executive.
