'Gentle giant' Jermaine Jones goes spiritual on 'American Idol'

Tall Jermaine Jones is up next on "American Idol," says music is his life and that he grew up singing in church. "We don't know anything else," he says. Seems like a nice guy who is tight with his mom.

The music teacher from Pine Hill, N.J., picks "Superstar" by Luther Vandross for his audition song, an unusual choice but his bass voice and sincerity makes it work. "Natural gift," says Jennifer Lopez. " "Really spiritual voice," says Steven Tyler.

They both point out how nervous he is, then tell him he's great and he should loosen up. "The gentle giant goes to Hollywood," says Randy Jackson.

I really like him. He's got a great vibe. We'll see if he can stretch his range.
