To be filed under "reasonably amazing coincidences," "Glee" will cover Whitney Houston's best-known song - Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" - in tomorrow's episode.
This is the One Where Gleeks Finally Meet Rachel's Dads, and for an average episode of "Glee" this will also include a very high song count - eight songs - when the average number can sometimes be half that.
Calling the Parton song selection "purely coincidental," a spokeswoman said the show wil be dedicated to Houston with a card appearing during the closing credits.
"Glee" music supervisor P.J. Bloom spoke to the Hollywood Reporter - which first reported this - yesterday saying, "We chose to do the song and [Glee co-creator] Ryan Murphy chose to do the song to honor one of the great hits of all time. Obviously we could not predict the unfortunately circumstances that happened this weekend but at the same time instead of focusing on the dark stuff, it's nice to have an opportunity to hear her in this way and celebrate the magic that Whitney brought to this industry."
The episode is entitled "Hearts," and per "Glee:" Mercedes (Amber Riley) sings Houston's legendary track "I Will Always Love You" as she decides between two men in her life - ex Sam (Chord Overstreet) and current boyfriend Shane (LaMarcus Tinker).
The episode is a big one for "Glee" and "Gleeks," who finally meet Rachel's (Lea Michele) two dads - Hiram (guest star Jeff Goldblum) and Leroy (guest star Brian Stokes Mitchell) who perform a Cole Porter song during a dinner party. Here's the full song list (thanks to Popcrush for locating):
