There was plenty of speculation that "Glee," anemic as it's been, would get a spin-off based on graduating characters next season. But that idea is now genuinely completely undeniably DOA.

Fox Entertainment chief Kevin Reilly told critics at the biannual press tour that it was not going to happen. Apparently no reason given -- I'm not out there obviously -- but let us indulge in some more speculation.

Spin-offs are spun off from megapopular shows, not from shows that are declining or dividing their fan base. Reilly said that "Glee" co-creator Ryan Murphy had instead a "cool" idea to incorporate graduating seniors next season. Which -- by the way -- sounds like confirmation that "Glee" itself will certainly be back.
