The increasingly tiresome, cloying, messagegy, preachy, teachy, speechy "Glee" made 8 million Gleeks guess who the prom queen would be only to reveal . . . Kurt Hummel? Maybe it worked for someone, but not for me -- that you-could-hear-a-pin drop moment, and the instant humiliation, followed by that kumbaya moment where everything was forgiven, forever.
("Carrie" did not end that way, of course. "Carrie" was Stephen King and Brian De Palma's tribute to any high schooler who had every been humiliated but didn't have the power to wreak revenge -- such as the power to burn down the high school gym simply by thinking about it. )
