Golden Globes: Yes, some howlers

Piper Perabo?

Piper Perabo?!

No "Lost?"

No "Lost?!"

No "Men of a Certain Age?" !

Well, OK! It must be Golden Globes time, and so it is. Announcements out a short while ago, and yes, Ms. Perabo scored a nom for "Covert Affairs."  Good for her, but...umm...

I'm sorry, but I can't look at these lists - Golden Globe ones - without wondering which studio flack took which pliant member of the Foriegn Press Association to which expensive watering hole where said member got riotously, uproariously sloshed.

 So be it.

The list with my quick snotty comments - and the ceremony is Jan. 16 (NBC) from the Beverly Hilton...

 Best Television Series - Drama

Boardwalk Empire (HBO)
Leverage, Closest to the Hole Productions, Sikelia Productions and Cold Front
Productions, HBO Entertainment

Showtime Presents, John Goldwyn Productions, The Colleton Company, Clyde Phillips

The Good Wife (CBS)
CBS Television Studios

Mad Men (AMC)
Lionsgate Television

The Walking Dead (AMC)

Snotty comment: Oh jeez. Zombies?! Sure, love the show. But where's "Breaking Bad?"  Knuckleheads. And no "Lost." That's just criminal. I'm sorry - but I'm calling the police. No "Lost??!!"  And in case you're wondering - yes, it was eligible. Six episodes in the calender year.

Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series - Drama

Julianna Margulies – The Good Wife (CBS)

Elisabeth Moss – Mad Men (AMC)

Piper Perabo – Covert Affairs

Katey Sagal – Sons Of Anarchy

Kyra Sedgwick – The Closer (TNT)

SC: Glenn Close is of course missing here. I guess she couldn't afford the wateringhole tab.

Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series - Drama

Steve Buscemi – Boardwalk Empire (HBO)

Bryan Cranston – Breaking Bad

Michael C. Hall – Dexter (SHOWTIME)

Jon Hamm – Mad Men (AMC)

Hugh Laurie – House (FOX)

SC: I guess they got this one mostly right, but I am growing weary of MC Hall - nothing wrong with him, but it's as if the members punch his ballot because that's what they think they're supposed to do.

Best Television Series - Comedy Or Musical

30 Rock (NBC)
Universal Media Studios in association with Broadway Video and Little Stranger Inc.

The Big Bang Theory (CBS)
Warner Bros. Television

The Big C (Showtime)
Showtime, Sony Pictures Television, Perkins Street Productions, Farm Kid, Original Film

Glee (FOX)
Ryan Murphy Television, Twentieth Century Fox Television

Modern Family (ABC)
Twentieth Century Fox Television

Nurse Jackie (SHOWTIME)
Showtime, Lionsgate Television, Jackson Group Entertainment, Madison Grain Elevator,
Inc. & Delong Lumber, Caryn Mandabach Productions

SC: No "Curb Your Enthusiasm," no "The Office," no "Entourage" and "The Big C" doesn't really belong. Otherwise. obvious and safe. I actually think "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" has as much a right to belong here as any of these, maybe more so.

Best Performance by an Actress In A Television Series - Comedy Or Musical

Toni Collette – United States Of Tara (SHOWTIME)

Edie Falco – Nurse Jackie (SHOWTIME)

Tina Fey – 30 Rock (NBC)

Laura Linney – The Big C (Showtime)

SC: Sure, fine. Blah blah blah.

Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series - Comedy Or Musical

Alec Baldwin – 30 Rock (NBC)

Steve Carell – The Office (NBC)

Thomas Jane – Hung (HBO)

Matthew Morrison – Glee (FOX)

Jim Parsons – The Big Bang Theory (CBS)

SC: Thomas Jane? No comment. I actually think Ray Romano or Andre Braugher - both - belong on this list.

Best Mini-Series Or Motion Picture Made for Television

Carlos (Sundance C)

The Pacific (HBO)
Playtone and DreamWorks in association with HBO Films

Starz, Tandem Communications, Muse Entertainment Scott Free Films

Temple Grandin (HBO)
A Ruby Films, Gerson Saines Production, HBO Films

You Don't Know Jack (HBO)
Bee Holder, Cine Mosaic and Levinson/Fontana Productions, HBO Films

SC: "Carlos?" Shouldn't that really be a best foriegn film nom? Why here? Probably cuz they wanted to squeeze it in.

Best Performance by an Actress In A Mini-series or Motion Picture Made for Television

Hayley Atwell – Pillars Of The Earth (STARZ)

Claire Danes – Temple Grandin (HBO)

Judi Dench – Return To Cranford

Romola Garai – Emma

Jennifer Love Hewitt – The Client List

SC: I haven't seen "The Client List." Was it any good?

Idris Elba – Luther

Ian McShane – Pillars Of The Earth (STARZ)

Al Pacino – You Don't Know Jack (HBO)

Dennis Quaid – The Special Relationship

Edgar Ramirez – Carlos (Sundance C)

SC: "The Special Relationship" was the most overrated film of the year.

Hope Davis – The Special Relationship

Jane Lynch – Glee (FOX)

Kelly MacDonald – Boardwalk Empire (HBO)

Julia Stiles – Dexter (SHOWTIME)

Sofia Vergara – Modern Family (ABC)

SC: This is actually the best of nomination list of all - even Davis belongs.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion
Picture Made for Television

Scott Caan – Hawaii Five-O

Chris Colfer – Glee (FOX)

Chris Noth – The Good Wife (CBS)

Eric Stonestreet – Modern Family (ABC)

David Strathairn – Temple Grandin (HBO)

SC: Not bad here either, and nice to see Caan get a nod.
