Hollie Cavanagh told she's 'better than that' on 'American Idol'

Hollie Cavanagh singing "Honesty" on "American Idol," fashion consultant Tommy Hilfiger says she was dressed last week like "an old lady" -- they talk it over and he decides to put her into something with shine, to "make her look and feel like a real star on stage."

Mentor Jimmy Iovine helps her get some of the sadness into the song, the "disappointment and anger" as guest mentor Diddy puts it.

Wow, real emotion in her voice, works well with her big vocals on this song. Riveted, can't not pay attention. A bit overdramatic maybe, even over-performed; but still compelling, best of the night for me so far.

"You're one of our grand singers," says Steven Tyler, but calls her pitchy, says she seemed to be overthinking. Jennifer Lopez didn't think she knew every note of the song, was a bit sharp or flat at times, despite her "beautiful-sounding voice."

Randy Jackson thought the choruses were great, but too much thinking in the other parts; "come on now, you're better than that."

She agrees with the judges afterwards, says was a tough song for her.
