'Homeland:' What next for Nick Brody (Damian Lewis)?

Usually when a new series wins a best drama Emmy its freshman year, as "Homeland" did last Sunday, fans want to know: "Well, fine, but what have you done for me lately?" All eyes or certainly many eyes are now on "Homeland" - and there's not a whole lot of excuses to miss because Showtime is streaming the season premiere online - and it's fair to wonder about that "what next?" That question can best be put to Nick Brody - Damian Lewis, who won an Emmy for best actor in a drama - the spy who came in from the cold and is now a potential vice presidential nominee. Could this 12-episode season play out the entire campaign, with Brody and William Walden (Jamey Sheridan) triumphant, which then sets the table for another Brody-specific season? Sure, but doubtful,. Here's what I think will happen: the Brody story is wrapped decisively this season, which means "Homeland" has to reboot for its third season. That's a hunch, but co-exec producer, Alex Ganza, who created this series along with Howard Gordon, told me a couple of weeks ago that Carrie (Claire Danes) and Saul (Mandy Patinkin) will continue "to fight the bad guys" in future years.
