This COULD be sad news indeed for fans of the wonderful, rewarding and beautifully crafted "In Treatment:" HBO may be pulling the plug. There are various reports, notably coming out of Variety, that the fourth season will not be. It's heart-breaking news for fans of Gabriel Byrne's Paul Weston, one of TV's great characters, who will never have a chance to finish the journey he set out on - discovering his own soul after he had so deftly located other people's. What a loss - and for the New York production community which was so justifiably proud of this small classic. Nothing official from HBO, but fans suspected a fourth would be tough. This is a hugely difficult show to produce - enormous amount of memorization, intense emotional settings. It was one thing when HBO already had the scripts of "Be Tipul," but those ended last year. But HBO said last night cancellation talk is premature:
"It’s true that we have no plans to continue with In Treatment as previously formatted. However, we are in continued conversations with the executive producers to find another way to continue telling these rich stories."
