James Durbin goes Adam Lambert on 'American Idol'

James Durbin closes out "American Idol." He says his musician dad died of a drug overdose when he was 9 and he breaks down talking about him.

He has Tourette syndrome, the second contestant in two years on the show to have the condition. He has a kid now, no job and is really struggling. Wow. You can't help but root for him.

He has a fantastic vocal range, even does "Dream On" in front of Steven Tyler. Of course everyone's gonna compare him to Adam Lambert, the same power and go-for-broke mentality. "Whoahs" and "wows" from the judges.

"When I sings it all goes away. I don't have a care in the world," he says.

"That was so good," says Tyler. "That range was crazy," says Randy Jackson. Jennifer Lopez loves how he sings from the heart.

"His melodic sensibility is crazy," the judges say afterward.
