James Gandolfini, certainly one of the iconic actors in the history of the medium, is returning to HBO to shoot a pilot within the next month or so in New York City — entitled "Criminal Justice," an adaptation of Peter Moffat's British series of the same name (see video below.)
HBO has confirmed a Deadline report from this morning, and while the deal is a pilot order only, there's about zero chance it will not move forward to series — Richard Price is attached as is Steven Zaillian, a star screenwriter who wrote (and won an Oscar for) "Schindler's List." Gandolfini will play this sort of rumpled — yes, I suppose the specter of "Columbo" should be summoned at this point — lawyer who will represent a (perhaps) wrongfully accused perp thrown into the justice system.
Among other actors attached, this one: Poorna Jagannathan. You know here from "Royal Pains." The Moffat series aired in '08 so this adaptation will obviously be updated. A couple of clips below: Moffat talking about the series' genesis; and the original series trailer .?.?.
