Can we all talk about Lane Pryce now - Jared Harris - of "Mad Men?" It has been nearly 24 hours after all. You can't all have missed the chatter around the virtual water cooler...Lane's end...by...
Well, you know. Or if you don't don't read this post, please. In any event, Harris spoke about this with reporters today. He had known of his demise for months, cued in by his boss and "Men" showrunner Matthew Weiner some months ago (in the fall?) when the episode was taped.
Per Harris, when Weiner first told him about the final scene, he was called up to the producer's office. "He offered me incredibly expensive brandy and I knew this wasn't going to go well. " Harris noted that the profferment of brandy was not a good sign. "He said, 'I know. I'm really sorry.' He explained why he wanted to do it and that it had been building up to it during the season. I could see from an actor's point of view why it was to my benefit to go out with a bang rather than a whimper.
"I know 'Mad Men' is going to get bigger and bigger as it builds to season seven [the final one] and I'm sorry I won't be a part of that, but I joined late so no reason I should..."
