Mechanic Jason "Wolf" Hamlin closes out "American Idol" in San Diego, plays a git-fiddle (guitar) built by his late father and says if he were here he'd be on the ship "giggling like a little girl," and glad that his son was going for it. How do you not root for a story like this?!

Sings "Midnight Special," just one of those natural, country voices. Nice to listen to; starts tapping his foot in time. Stephen Tyler wants to hear something else, so he plays his guitar and does some Johnny Cash, "Folsom Prison Blues."

Great driving force to it; the judges love it and send him through. He does some crazy, thrashing dance afterward ... he's fun guy. And then he gives Ryan Seacrest a kiss on the cheek. He had said at the outset of the segment that every woman who knew he was going to be on the show wanted him to do that for them.
