Joshua Ledet closes down "American Idol" with Tom Jones' version of "To Love Somebody." He says guest mentor Steven van Zandt and his pal mentor Jimmy Iovine are like "teenage boys" in their back-and-forth joshing; they love his rehearsal. Van Zandt calls him incredible.
He's good as always on this song; silky smooth and controlled at the start, lets his emotions loose in the middle. Pitch perfect, and his timing is right on -- you just can't turn away when he's performing. Audience goes nuts, judges give him a standing ovation.
"Wow," says Randy Jackson, "you have to be born to do that, this is not a learned thing.... You are one of the best singers ever on this show, that was incredible. Nobody could do that better."
Jennifer Lopez says "it's been years since we've seen somebody like this."
Steven Tyler calls him "such a great artist," and says "that would've been a hit record, right there."
