For a show that says goodbye to an awful lot of co-hosts, "The View" has a fun habit of saying welcome back to some of them. The latest returnee: Joy Behar, who will join Candace Cameron Bure and Paula Faris as co-hosts next season, ABC announced yesterday.
With the return of Whoopi Goldberg and recent additions Raven-Symoné and Michelle Collins as co-hosts, the rebuild is now officially complete.
"Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in," said Behar in a statement. "Plus, [my husband] Steve was getting tired of applauding every time I gave my opinion. But I'm happy to be back home. And I'm looking forward to sticking my two cents into the hot topics, especially now that Hillary and the Donald are in the spotlight."
Behar will bring a little something that's been missing on the panel -- her own special brand of moxie and a comic's timing. During a housecleaning in 2013, Behar was pushed out and the show instantly lost part of its long-standing identity. Barbara Walters also left, and just like that, "The View" was no longer "The View" but instead "Some Show Trying to Look like 'The View.' "
Ratings have been OK -- even with all the revolving host chairs -- but "The View" has zero buzz. Rosie O'Donnell also came back, for a brief and tumultuous second-time-around, while Sherri Shepherd has been rumored (in various gossip sites) for another tour of duty.
In addition to Behar, the show's other new co-hosts also expressed their excitement about joining the show."
"I am thrilled to be joining 'The View' as a regular co-host this fall," said "Full House" vet Cameron Bure in a statement. "I am honored to be a new addition to such a strong group of bright and opinionated women, and I look forward to sharing this exciting journey with viewers new and old." Bure will also star in the upcoming Netflix "Full House" reboot titled "Fuller House."
And there was this from ABC News and "Good Morning America" vet Faris: ""What I love about 'The View' is that no topic is off the table and every viewer can feel like they have a voice on the show. I can't wait to connect with the audience in a new way as I take a seat alongside this exceptional group of women."
Season 19 begins Sept. 8.
