“American Idol” has its first new judge and her name is Katy Perry.
During its Upfront presentation, ABC announced on Tuesday that the “Chained to the Rhythm” singer will sit at the judges panel on the “Idol” reboot when it begins this fall at its new network. Perry wasted no time in celebrating the announcement.
“SO thrilled @ABCNetwork is bringing back @AmericanIdol, and I’m bringing it back to the MUSIC see you at auditions,” Perry tweeted.
Perry did appear as a judge during the audition rounds on season 9 of the series when it aired on Fox. She also made several appearances on the show as a musical guest.
Former “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest said on “Live With Kelly & Ryan” that he might entertain an offer to host the new version, but ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey made no mention of anyone who would be hosting during the presentation. The annual Upfront event is when the networks try to entice advertisers as they present their new season lineups.
